HUNTINGTON, N.Y. - Freshman Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) was the star of stars for the Daemen College men's track and field team today, helping the Wildcats to a fifth-place finish in the team standings at the East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Reid, who also competes on the pitch for the Daemen men's soccer team, earned all-conference honors in all four events that he entered.  It began with a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash, running that distance in 7.23 seconds.  He added a second runner-up showing in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.09 seconds.  A third second-place performance came in the long jump as he leaped 6.70 meters.  To close, Reid anchored the 4 X 200 relay team to a second-place finish in that event, joined by teammates Robert Ralyea (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport), Nike Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) and Brandon Tytka (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster).

Ralyea was a top performer for Daemen as well, winning the pole vault competition by clearing 3.66 meters in the finals.  He had cleared 4.10 meters in the preliminary round as well, and it's his second straight pole vault title having won this event at last year's conference championship meet.

In the middle and long distance races, Daemen had strong showings as well.  Junior Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.13, finishing .23 seconds behind race-winner Kurt Samuel of Queens College.  Newcomer Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) finished third in the 3000-meter run (9:10.65) while veteran Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) was fourth in the 5000-meter run (16:06.66).  Ekdahl earns first team all-ECC honors for his performance while Rushok and Eustance generated second team all-conference recognition.

With the indoor season completed, the Wildcats are now idle until the outdoor season begins with the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College on March 29.
