PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team fought hard to the very end but fell 5-4 in a close match against Elmira College today. The Soaring Eagles improved to 3-3 with the victory.
"We started slow in the doubles as the courts are much slower than we are use to and the lighting was very dark," said head coach
Stephen Beatty. "Despite the conditions we came out fighting in the singles and almost pulled off a comeback win. Great win for Kiran at singles to fight through and get his first collegiate singles win."
Daemen's No. 2 doubles team of
Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and
Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y. / McQuaid Jesuit) picked up an 8-5 victory against Elmira's Satchal Waters and Austin Mansell. Lowe also bested Elmira's Keith Bujak 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Freshmen
Kiran Kudaravalli (Milton Keynes, United Kingdom / Ashlyns) contributed a point for the Wildcats by defeating Pavle Vashakidze 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while
John Wilson (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse) also downed Neal Statts at No. 6 singles 6-0,6-2 for the Wildcats.
