AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team will wrap up the 2025-26 season on Saturday as they host the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds in a 6:30 PM match at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y. The Wildcats are 4-14 on the year and 0-5 in East Coast Conference play, while UDC comes into the match with a 3-10 overall record and 1-4 record in ECC matches.
Prior to the match on Saturday, the Wildcats will honor a pair of seniors in
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) and
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) as they play their final home game in a Daemen uniform. Both Rohan and Alex have played in almost every game over their four-year Daemen careers. An impactful player for the Wildcats since his freshman season, Chitanand has appeared in 77 matches, totaling 21 singles wins (8th in Daemen's all-time career singles records) and 16 doubles victories. Chitanand ranks ninth all-time for combined singles and doubles victories (37) and is tied for fifth all-time in singles matches played (77). His junior campaign was his most successful, finishing with seven singles wins, four of those coming at fifth singles, and five doubles wins. Lumanog has played 67 matches over four years and totaled 15 singles wins and 19 wins in doubles play. 18 of Lumanog's 19 doubles victories have come at No. 1 doubles. Lumanog ranks seventh all-time for singles matches played (67). Aside from this season (4), Lumanog has totaled five doubles victories in each of the last three seasons at Daemen.
Daemen is coming off an 0-7 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas last Saturday. In doubles action, Daemen's top pairing of junior
Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) and senior
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) fell 2-6. At second doubles, junior
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) and freshman
Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) lost in a 1-6 decision. Freshmen
Pablo Viera (Naples, Fla.) and
Jordan Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y.) dropped a 1-6 score in No. 3 doubles.
STAC took all six singles pairings on the day. Garcia fought hard to a 4-6, 5-7 final at No. 1 singles, narrowly missing out on sending it to a third set. Mergens fell 3-6, 1-6 in second singles. At No. 3 singles, Chitanand lost 1-6, 2-6. Pollack fell (1-6, 1-6) at No. 4 singles, Hamdan (0-6, 0-6) dropped fifth singles, and Viera fell (1-6, 0-6) at sixth singles.
UDC sits at 3-10 on the year and 1-4 in ECC action, with their sole conference win coming against Daemen on April 3 that snapped a four-game losing streak. The Firebirds and Wildcats played close throughout their match, with UDC winning 5-2 but three pairings that UDC won were incredibly tight and could have gone either way, including two three-set matches in singles play.
