Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - After more than 80 minutes of scoreless play, the Daemen College women's soccer team surrendered a late, tie-breaking goal which proved to be the difference as host Lake Erie College came away with a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats in a non-conference midday clash today. The loss, Daemen's second straight by a 1-0 margin, drops the Wildcats to an even 2-2 on the season, while Lake Erie, of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), ups its mark to 2-1.
The Storm's Kalah Saunders snapped the offensive drought and put away the eventual game-winner in the 83rd minute after taking a feed from Elizabeth Awuah. For Saunders, it was her first tally of the season.
Daemen's best chance to net the equalizer came with a corner kick opportunity in the 87th minute, but that was negated similar to the Wildcats' five other corner kick attempts throughout the game.
The loss spoiled a tremendous effort in goal from Daemen sophomore
Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia). Haessner made five saves between the pipes, but was the hard-luck loser for the second straight outing. Sarah Stroope turned away all four of Daemen's shots on goal to earn the victory for Lake Erie.
Daemen placed four of its eight total shots on frame, including a pair by sophomore
Cassidy Kozub (West Seneca, N.Y./Orchard Park). The Wildcats also held the edge in corner kicks opportunities (6-3).
The Wildcats look to jump back into the win column when they face Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio this Sunday. The former American Mideast Conference rivals have not met since 2011, with Daemen owning a 5-3 edge in the all-time series, including a 5-1 victory in the teams' last meeting. A full
