Men's Soccer Drops ECC Opener

OAKDALE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Golden Lions Field to East Coast Conference opponent Dowling College this evening.  Daemen falls to 2-3-0 on the season and 0-1 in ECC while Dowling improves their record at 3-2-1 and 1-0 in conference action.

The Golden Lions jumped to an early lead after Sean Collins scored off a cross into the box from Philip Svensson in the 10th minute for his first goal of the season.  Later in the half, junior Mike Gronenthal tallied his fourth goal of the season after he touched the ball in the net off a deflection from Daemen keeper Matt Daddario (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home HS). The Golden Lions went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Gronenthal then made it 3-0 in favor of Dowling when he netted a shot from eighteen yards out to the top left corner in the 79th minute marking his fifth goal of the season.

Dowling launched 12 total shots placing five of them on frame and racked up seven corner kick opportunities. 

Daddario made two saves for the Wildcats while his counterpart, Michael Friedl took home the shutout for the Golden lions.

The Wildcats will look to bounce back quickly as they travel to the University of Bridgeport – another member of the East Coast Conference - this Sunday, Sept. 21 for a 3:00 p.m. match.
