ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team returned to racing today after a two week hiatus, taking 14th place out of 25 competing teams at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted on campus by Roberts Wesleyan College.  The Wildcats amassed 402 points to sit behind 13th-place Mercyhurst University (375 points).  Cortland State (40 points) squeaked the team title, besting second-place Cornell University (42 points) by two.

Junior Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) paced the Wildcats today, coming in 52nd place in the 8K race, out of 233 total entrants, with a time of 27:42.1.  Rushok's performance marked the second time in Daemen's three races this season that he has been the Wildcats' top finisher, while he also established a new season-best time for the 8K.

Also with a season-best time today was sophomore Matt Cregan (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) who ran his first sub-28-minute 8K race of the year (27:58.0) to finish in 62nd overall.

Rounding out the Daemen scorers was senior Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) and freshmen Matt McCann (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) and David DelValle (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West).  Ekdahl finished in 96th place with a time of 29:03.1 while the greenhorns, McCann (29:24.0) and DelValle (29:46.6), finished in 107th and 127th places, respectively.  It was McCann's second straight race in Daemen's top five finishers while DelValle cracked the scoring list for the first time in his career.

The race was won outright by Cortland State's Nick Marcantonio (25:41.8) who was a little less than four full seconds better than his teammate Jarred Iacovelli (25:45.1) who came in second.

Daemen is back in action at next weekend's (Saturday, Oct. 4) SUNY Geneseo Invitational which will be held at Letchworth State Park.
