LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Daemen College women's volleyball team came oh-so-close to breaking into the win column for the first time this season today, but couldn't seal the deal, ultimately dropping both their contests at a tri-match hosted by Lock Haven University at Thomas Fieldhouse.  Daemen opened play today by falling in five-sets to Kutztown University (27-29, 25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 10-15), before dropping a three-set affair to the host Bald Eagles (12-25, 14-25, 12-25).  Lock Haven downed Kutztown in four sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-27, 25-18) in the day's other match, which was a conference affair for the two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) affiliates.

Daemen dropped to 0-14 on the season after today's results.  Lock Haven upped its mark to 10-4 while Kutztown took the split to move to 7-6 overall.

In their opening match, Daemen pushed Kutztown to extra points twice, but dropped each set, leading to a two-all tie, forcing the team's first fifth set of the year.  In the end, Kutztown proved to be too much for Daemen to overcome as the Golden Bears got the five-point win in the deciding set.

Daemen got a pair of double-doubles from sophomore Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) and freshman Jenna Reeser (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home).  Drzymala doubled up with a career-high 22 kills along with 21 digs for the first 20-20 match of her career.  Reeser notched double-figure kills for the second time in three matches as she hammered down a career-best 14 to go with 10 digs in her first career double-double.

The Wildcats also got 21 kills from senior Lindsey Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y./Immaculata) and a career-best 63 assists from freshman setter Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder).  McKrell's production was the most by a Daemen setter since Kimmie Mack (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) recorded 55 assists in a four-set loss to Walsh University on Oct. 31, 2009.

Chelsea Turcer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) posted 12 digs in the match for Daemen which attacked at a .190 clip in the match which is a season-best.

Danielle Van Buren managed 19 kills to lead Kutztown.  The Golden Bears also got 34 assists and 14 digs from Anna Conti.

Shortly thereafter, the Wildcats found themselves locking up with Lock Haven who was picked fourth in the PSAC East preseason poll.  The Bald Eagles cruised to double-digit wins in all three sets to close out the day's action.

Megan Flick contributed a match-high 12 kills to lead Lock Haven while setter Jessica Brown assisted on 38 of the team's 45 kills in the match.

Daemen, playing without Drzymala, Turcer and McKrell, got nine kills from Nowak and a career-high 11 digs from freshman Alicia Contreras (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia).  Also, sophomore setter Allie Witkoski (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) notched a career-best 13 assists.

Daemen returns to the court tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 28) when they host Mercy College for an East Coast Conference matchup at Lumsden Gymnasium with the first serve set for 10:30 a.m.
