:AMHERST, N.Y.- The Daemen College men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback today against Molloy College in an East Coast Conference matchup on a bright and windy day at Dimp Wagner Stadium.
With the loss, Daemen falls to 2-8-1 while the Lions jump to a winning 8-3-0 record for the season.
Daemen, which played its second game in less than 24 hours, suffered an early setback and were forced to come from behind the entire game. Kyle Poetzsch netted his ninth goal of the season in the bottom right corner past
Justin Figler (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) only 11:31 into the game. Ryan Fackner received a pass via goal kick and tapped a feed to Poetzsch who finished the play.
It did not take much more time until the Lions were able to celebrate another goal. Five minutes and eight seconds later, Fackner scored a goal of his own with a chip in the bottom left corner of the net off a feed from Mosiah Whyte. This goal marks Facker's second goal of the season.
All three of Molloy's goals were scored in the first half of the game. A scramble at the net occurred 29:14 into the game. Figler was able to make two saves during this jumble, but Poetzsch and Fackner connected once again to register Poetzsch's second goal of the game.
Molloy outshot Daemen 12-5 in the first half of the game while Figler was able to make four saves over Stephen Tappeto's three saves. Molloy had one corner kick during the first half but could not capitalize on the opportunity. Each team had a pair of offsides while
Jeremy Nand (Toronto, Ont./University of Charleston) received a yellow card with 28:46 in the first half.
Daemen was able to have a powerful amount of ball possession in the second half of the game. Even though the Wildcats outshot the Lions 13-2 in the second, they could not capitalize on any scoring opportunities.
Foazy Nwaiser received a yellow card with a little over five minutes left in playing time. In total, Daemen had 10 shots on goal but Tappeto was able to save each strike.
Daemen will return to ECC competition on Saturday, October 17 at Dimp Wagner Stadium against University of the District of Columbia at 1:00 p.m.
