MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - The Daemen College men's tennis team fell to 0-2 in dual matches this season after suffering a 6-3 defeat in non-conference play today versus Post University at the Edgewater Bath and Tennis Club.
Post was able to sweep through doubles competition to take control of the match early. Â In the No. 2 slot, Ludvig Henrikson and David Narovec won 9-8 in tighly contested matchup with the Daemen pairing of
Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and
David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia/Liceo Frances de Pereira) to secure the Eagles' third point of the match.
Needing to take five of the six singles matchups to win the match was too tall of a task for the Wildcats who ended up with a split in singles play today.
Veitengruber won a hard-fought battle in the No. 3 singles position, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, over PU's Peter Fanous. Â The singles win moves Veitengruber to 6-2 in singles play so far this season.
Daemen also picked up points at the backend of singles competition, gaining points from
Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and
John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) in the Nos. 5 and 6 slots, respectively. Â Lowe won 6-1, 6-2 over Narovec, while LeMar took out Ryan Moffat 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
But, with points at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles, Post clinched the match victory in its first dual match of the season.
Daemen looks to jump into the win column this Wednesday, October 14 when they host Houghton College at 5:30 p.m. at the Ellicott Tennis Courts. Â That match will conclude the fall portion of Daemen's 2015-16 schedule which resumes in mid-February.
