FULL RESULTSCLERMONT, Fla. - The Daemen College women's triathlon team wrapped up its fall season today, competing at the Collegiate National Championship, a dual-sponsored event by the NCAA and USA Triathlon. Â It was only the third Collegiate National Championship for the sport of triathlon which has been designated as an Emerging Sport for Women by the NCAA.
The event also marked Daemen's first appearance there as the Wildcats progress through their inaugural season. Â Normally, triathletes need to qualify for the Collegiate National Championship at a Regional Qualifier, but Daemen was awarded an automatic invitation as a recipient of the Emerging Sport for Women Grant given by USA Triathlon earlier this year.
Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) was the top finisher for Daemen, coming in 48th place overall, out of 72 total competitors. Â Cheff completed the course in 1:13.50. Â The course, located inside of Lake Louisa State Park, featured a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run.
Nichole Geiger (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and
Anna Lyons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) also competed for Daemen today.
Abby Levene of Colorado University won the race today with a time of 1:02.39, coming in two minutes ahead of runner-up Jocelyn Bonney (1:04.06).
