Reid Paces Men's Track & Field At Brockport Meet

Sophomore Had Hand In 16 Of Daemen's 22 Points

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Sophomore Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) had a solid afternoon, accounting for 13 points individually and adding three more as part of the Wildcats' 4 X 200-meter relay team, to pace the Daemen College men's indoor track and field team today at the Brockport Mid-Season Classic held at the Special Events and Recreation Center.  Daemen amassed 22 points as a team to finish in 10th place overall out of 14 competing squads.  The host Brockport Golden Eagles racked up 140.5 points to sit atop the team standings at the meet's conclusion.

Reid took home runner-up honors in the long jump for the second consecutive meet, having done so at last week's season-opening performance at the Hamilton College Invitational.  Today, Reid's long leap of 6.57 meters earned the Wildcats eight points in the team standings for Daemen's highest finish of the afternoon.

On the track, Reid earned five more points with his fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash.  His time of 23.29 seconds was just off the pace set by race-winner Joseph Jensen (22.32 seconds) of Hamilton College.

In the relay, Reid anchored the four-man crew to a sixth-place finish which earned three points.  Reid was joined in the relay by teammates Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical), Andy Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and Brandon Tytka (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster).

Daemen also picked up a single point in the 4 X 400-meter relay.  The team of Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva), Mike Capestrani (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) and Manny Regis (New York City, N.Y./East Side Community) finished that race in ninth place with a time of 3:48.44.

Senior Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) earned three points with his sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter run.  Eustance's time of 9:23.09 made him one of 10 competitors to race in better than nine-minutes-and-thirty-seconds.

Classmate Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) was the seventh-place finisher in the 800-meter run.  Ekdahl's time of 2:02.44 earned two points to round out the total for coach Seth Yernye's Wildcats.

Jemmison added a pair of top-10 finishes that were just outside of point-awarding performances.  He finished ninth in the 200-meter dash (23.70 seconds) and 10th in the 400-meter dash (52.80 seconds).

Daemen is back in action next Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Colgate University Invitational.  The meet, which represents the Wildcats' final tune up for the East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship (Feb. 20-21), begins at 12 p.m.
