AMHERST, N.Y.. - The Daemen College women's soccer team battled against visiting Walsh University in dreary weather conditions in a scoreless game at Dimp Wagner Stadium. With today's result, Daemen places themselves at 0-3-1 overall while Walsh tallies another tie to their record making them 2-1-2.
Freshman midfielder
Andrea D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mempham) gained early possession of the ball and sent a pass to junior midfielder
Alexis Koral (Williamsville, N.Y./William Smith College). Koral kicked a quick shot that was snagged by Walsh goaltender Michaella Stucky. This shot was followed by two fouls, both on Daemen.
Walsh had several scoring opportunities in the first half, but nothing could get by Daemen goalkeeper
Meaghan O'Leary (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island). Daemen had six fouls in the first half of the game.Â
The cold and rain began to worsen at the beginning of the second half of the game. Walsh received a foul only seconds into the frame which led to a corner kick for Daemen, but they could not capitalize on the opportunity.Â
The back line for Daemen played well in overtime and were key to keeping Walsh from scoring. Freshman
Monique Green (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) was able to thwart several shots and kept the ball in Wildcat possession.
Alex Valenti (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and
Meghan Lipinoga (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Canisius College) took away key scoring opportunities for Walsh.
Senior
Ashley Griffin (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) sent a rocket pass down the field to D'Sa, but the two defenders on D'Sa broke up the Wildcat opportunity as the clock ran out. The game would end with several fouls and scoring opportunities for each team, yet a scoreless game.Â
Today's tie was the first of the season for the Wildcats and the first game to go into overtime.
Daemen will look to earn their first win as they make the trip to Mansfield, Pa. on Wednesday to take on Mansfield University at 4:00 p.m.
