CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - It was another milestone day for the newly-established Daemen College women's triathlon team which saw competitors
Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and
Anna Lyons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) finish first and second, respectively, at the Finger Lakes Triathlon today.
Today's event marked the second competition for the team, led by head coach
Jon Metz. Â Metz entered his competitors in the sprint version of the Finger Lakes Triathlon today, a shorter course than the Olympic distance, featuring a 0.45-mile swim in Canandaigua Lake, a 13-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run.
Cheff came in 21st overall in the mixed gender standings, and was the first female to complete the course, finishing with a time of 1:25.43. Â It was the second-straight week with a placement for Cheff who finished second in her grouping (females ages 20-24) at last week's Lake George Triathlon Festival.
Lyons was not far behind, finishing 37th overall and second amongst female entrants with a time of 1:29.33.
Next up for Metz's squad is a trip to Browns Summit, N.C. for the North Carolina Draft Legal Triathlon on October 3 which will double as the East Region Qualifier for NCAA triathlon teams such as Daemen's.
