ITHACA, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's indoor track and field team participated in the Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University at Barton Hall today. It was the second meet in as many weeks for the Wildcats who opened their season on January 23 at the SPIRE North Coast Indoor Track and Field Open.
Junior
Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) paced the Wildcats on the track today, finishing in 13th place in the 1,000-meter run. VanDeMortel, who competed in the 800-meter run last week, finishing 10th, ran today's slightly longer race in 2:43.27.
Also on the track, junior
Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation) finished 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.95 seconds.
Freshman
Joseph Tracy (Malone, N.Y./Franklin) paced a trio of top-30 finishers for Daemen in the 800-meter run. Tracy (2:08.33) bested teammates
Mike Capestrani (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) and
Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) who finished 24th and 25th, respectively.
In field events, the Wildcats were paced today by sophomore thrower
Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) who finished in 13th place in the shot put with a toss of 11.89 meters.
Daemen returns to action next Friday and Saturday (February 5-6) at the NCAA Division II Challenge hosted by SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
