For Communications Freshmen Lift Women's Soccer Past Pitt-Johnstown JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Freshman Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) netted a pair of goals and assisted on classmate Lindsay Ciaramella's (St. George, Ont./Paris District) game-winneing goal as Daemen College posted a 3-1 road win over University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in non-conference women's soccer action today at the UPJ Soccer Field. The win today snapped a four-game drought (0-3-1) for the Wildcats who improved to 4-6-2 overall this season.  Daemen is an even 3-3-1 in non-conference games. UPJ, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, are left to continue their search for their first win of the season, falling to 0-13-0.  The host Mountain Cats are now 0-49-1 in their last 50 contests, dating back to the end of the 2013 season. The two goals for Boyar today give her a team-leading five tallies this season, the most for a Daemen freshman since Kim Obermeier (Depew, N.Y./Depew) struck for nine goals in 2012.  She also became the first Daemen freshman with a multi-goal game since Obermeier scored twice in a 9-0 shellacking of Fisher College on October 28, 2012.  Boyar also leads the team in assists (3) and points (13), ranking eighth among all East Coast Conference players in the latter. Boyar got Daemen on the board at the 29:41 mark, taking a pass from sophomore back Alex Valenti (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and beating UPJ goalkeeper Leigh Appolonia (West Newton, Pa.). Freshman midfielder Kyra Watkins (Charleroi, Pa.) pulled the Mountain Cats even with exactly one minute to play before halftime.  Her classmate, defender Khori Weaver (Pittsburgh, Pa.), sent a crossing feed into the box and Watkins finished the play with her first marker of the season. Ciaramella broke the tie when Boyar found her with a crossing feed at the top of the box.  It was the first career tally for the freshman midfielder. With UPJ committing players forward late in the game, Daemen countered and Alexis Koral (Williamsville, N.Y./William Smith College) found a streaking Boyar who broke away from the pack and put the game away with her goal at the 88:55 mark. UPJ held a 21-9 advantage in shot attempts, but 11 of their 12 shots on goal were turned aside by Wildcat sophomore Jackie Wescott (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South).  Wescott has now recorded double-figure saves in three of the last four outings, and five times overall this season.  She ranks second in total saves (81) and fourth in save percentage (.818) among all East Coast Conference net-minders. The win snapped Daemen's 14-game winless streak (0-12-2) against PSAC opponents.  Daemen's last win over a PSAC team came on September 24, 2002 against Mansfield University (3-2). Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play by hosting N.Y. Institute of Technology this Friday, October 14.
