For Communications UPJ Rallies Past Daemen In Overtime JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - A header goal by junior midfielder Erik Etter (Enola, Pa.) in the first overtime period lifted the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown to a 3-2 victory today over Daemen College in non-conference men's soccer action at the UPJ Soccer Field. Etter's goal came after the Mountain Cats erased a 2-1 halftime deficit to force the extra session.  Redshirt-senior forward Colin Michalski (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored his second goal of the game (and sixth of the season) in the 73rd minute off a feed from Darrell Rodgers to tie it up. The loss today sends Daemen to 2-12-0 on the season, while UPJ improves to 4-8-0.  The four wins this season are the most for the Mountain Cats since going 7-9-0 in 2011.  The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference affiliate also picked up its first win in the all-time series with Daemen.  The teams have met in each of the last four seasons with Daemen owning a 3-1-0 edge in the series, including a 3-2 (2OT) win in Amherst last season. Daemen senior Colin Edwards (Burlington, Ont./Tiffin University) put the Wildcats on the board less than three minutes into the contest when he converted a penalty kick opportunity at the 2:53 mark.  It was Edwards' second marker of the season with both coming on penalty kicks. Michalski evened things up at the 6:01 mark after taking a pass from Jeremy Scheffel (Somerset, Pa.), sending his shot into the bottom right side of the net. A short time later, Daemen freshman Ali Shawish (Lackawanna, N.Y./Lackawanna) registered his team-leading seventh goal of the season to put the Wildcats back ahead by one (2-1) at the 11:18 mark.  Shawish, who's now totaled four goals in the last three games, was the recipient of a breakaway pass from classmate Nate Louk (Jane Lew, W. Va./Lewis County) and he made good on the opportunity, beating veteran UPJ net-minder Nate Kleya (Monroeville, Pa.). The score remained that way for more than 60 minutes before Michalski posted his second game-tying goal of the game.  UPJ survived 11 Daemen shot attempts in that span with Kleya stopping the two attempts that made their way on frame. Kleya came up with another save on a shot by Logan Podrebarac (Burlington, Ont./Tiffin University) in the 88th minute as regulation time wound down. In overtime, Shawish sailed a shot attempt high at the 93:51 mark.  Exactly 80 seconds later, Etter ended the game with his header off a feed from D.J. Vogelman (Philadelphia, Pa.). The win for UPJ came despite being out-shot 19-13, although both teams posted five shots on goal.  Daemen also owned an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Freshman Steve Geffert (North Rose, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) made his third start of the season between the pipes for the Wildcats, making two saves. Shawish, who earlier in the day was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, now leads the team with 15 points this season, ranking seventh among all East Coast Conference players.  He's the first Daemen player to record seven goals in a season since Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis) posted 10 and Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) notched seven during the 2013 season. Daemen returns to ECC play later this week when they host N.Y. Institute of Technology on Friday, October 14.
