For Communications Men's Soccer Falls In Home Finale To #5 LIU Post AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's soccer team suffered an 8-1 defeat this afternoon to visiting Long Island University Post in East Coast Conference action at the Sweet Home High School Stadium. The Pioneers, who came in as the top ranked team in the East Region and the No. 5 ranked team in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II national poll, rolled to their 11th win of the season (11-0-1), while staying unbeaten in ECC play (4-0-1). Daemen dropped to 2-14-0 overall and 0-8-0 in the league with the loss. Charlie Ledula, the reigning ECC Rookie of the Year, scored two first-half goals, as did teammate David Arvidsson to help the Pioneers establish a 7-0 edge by halftime. Ledula, who also picked up an assist in the first half, now leads the league with 13 tallies this season, while ranking second with 28 points. Additional first-half goals came from Nico Kjaer Anderson, Harry Pearse and Ginaluca Santacruz.  Kjaer Anderson added three assists in the period. The Pioneers made it an 8-0 lead when Oliver Hollingsaeter posted his second marker of the season in the 55th minute to open the second-half scoring. Daemen's Ali Shawish (Lackawanna, N.Y./Lackawanna) got the Wildcats on the board with his team-leading eighth goal of the season.  Shawish took a feed from senior Cole Beale (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and beat LIU Post goalkeeper Brian McPartland in a one-on-one situation. LIU Post held a 28-8 edge in total shot attempts, placing 15 on frame.  All eight of Daemen's shot attempts came in the second half, with seven of them going on goal. Freshman Steve Geffert (North Rose, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) made his third straight start between the pipes for Daemen, finishing with seven saves.  McPartland made six saves to pick up the win for the Pioneers. The game today marked Daemen's final home game of the 2016 season.  Beale and fellow seniors Nick Sammarco (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport), Austin Stephany (Watkins Glen, N.Y./University at Buffalo) and Colin Edwards (Burlington, Ont./Tiffin University) were honored in a pre-game ceremony as the quartet made their final appearances in front of the home crowd today. Daemen wraps up its 2016 season by visiting University of Bridgeport next Sunday, October 23.
