For Communications Wildcats Fall To Nationally-Ranked Bridgeport BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Playing in their penultimate game of the season, the Daemen College women's soccer team suffered a 7-3 defeat to nationally-ranked University of Bridgeport in East Coast Conference action today at Knights Field. Bridgeport, the No. 15 ranked team in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division II national poll and the frontrunner to capture this year's league championship, improved to 12-3-0 overall while keeping their unblemished league mark (6-0-0) intact.  It was the ninth straight victory for the Purple Knights who advanced to the national semifinals last season.  UB has outscored their opponents 49-5 over their recent winning streak. The game marked the final ECC contest of the season for Daemen.  The Wildcats are now 4-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the league this season.  Despite the loss, Daemen's three-goal output today marked the most UB has surrendered in an ECC game since a 3-0 loss to Dowling College on October 28, 2012. UB did the entireity of their scoring in the first half.  Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) put the Purple Knights on the board just 2:27 into the contest after taking a corner kick feed from Hanne Neby (Furnes, Norway). The Purple Knights added three goals in a litte more than a two-and-half-minute span to go ahead 4-0 early in the frame.  Idoia Agirre (Legazpi, Spain), the ECC's leading goal scorer, netted her 18th of the season at the 8:12 mark off a feed from Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.).  Just over a 90 seconds later, at the 9:53 mark, Neby put home an unassisted tally on a long shot to the top corner.  Colligan added her second of the day and 10th of the season at the 10:47 mark after taking a feed from the ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Nicola Worthington (Chorley, England). Worthington would post her fourth goal of the season, scoring directly off her bending corner kick at the 13:32 mark to make it 5-0. Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Amy Strath (Aberdeen, Scotland) rounded out the scoring for UB in the period.  Daemen got on the board with freshman Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) netting her team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 64:14 mark.  The goal snapped UB's stretch of more than 520 minutes without allowing a goal dating back to a 3-1 win over Philadelphia University on September 28. Redshirt-sophomore Sarah Britton (Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) pushed home her third marker of the season after a long crossing feed from Boyar at the 74:59 mark.  The assist gave Boyar her second game this season with at least points, extending her team-best total in that category to 16. Junior Alex Juliano (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) closed the scoring with her second tally of the season for the Wildcats.  Her long shot at the 89:20 mark went in off the hands of UB goalkeeper Melanie Ziegner (Munster, Germany), the third net-minder used by the Purple Knights in the game. UB was incredibly efficient, scoring their seven goals on 11 shots on goal.  The Purple Knights held an 18-11 edge in total shot attempts.  Daemen's three goals came on five shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Anneliese Jennings (Warminster, Pa.) got the start for the Purple Knights, and picked up the win after just 45 minutes of action.  Her counterpart, Jackie Wescott (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) went the distance for Daemen, making four saves in defeat. Daemen moves on to closeout the 2016 season with a non-conference matchup at Mercyhurst University on October 26.
