WIldcats Battle ECC Foe UDC But Falls 4-0

ARLINGTON, Va. –  The Daemen College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to host University of the District of Columbia in a East Coast Conference match, on Saturday afternoon at Longbridge Park.

With the loss, the Wildcats falls to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the conference, while the Firebirds progress to 4-8-1 on the season and 4-1-1 in the league.   UDC snapped a two game-losing streak and improved to 3-0-1 in the all-time series against Daemen.

On the day, the Wildcats offense was paced by freshman Ali Shawish (Lackawanna, N.Y./Lackawanna) with three shots, while Chris Ellis (Clarence, N.Y..Clarence), Logan Podrebarac (Burlington, Ont./Tiffin University), and Shaquiille Corrica (New York City, N.Y./HS for Arts, Imagination & Inquiry) each tallied one shot.  Daemen registered six shots with two on goal.

In the net, sophomore Justin Figler (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) locked up three saves for the Wildcats in 90 minutes of play.

Shawish ripped two shots in the early going in the 11' and 13', but UDC's keeper blocked away both opportunities.

District of Columbia got on the board early in the 14h minute of the contest to take a 1-0 advantage.   Freshman Benhur Gebretsanie (Arlington, Va.) found the left side of the net on a string of passes from teammates Michael Agboola (London, England) and Salah Warid, (Herndon, Va.) for the second goal of his career.

The Firebirds increased their lead to 2-0 at the 44:10 mark of the first half.  Kevin Ortez (Alexandria, Va.) crossed the ball to Agboola who took a shot from inside the box beating Figler.

Daemen was unable to close in on the Firebirds in the second half.  UDC scored twice to close out the contest 4-0.  Gabriel Torres (Salvador, Brazil) and Malik Thom (Rockville, MD) each found the back of the net for the Firebirds.  Torres added an assist in the victory.

Daemen opens a three-game week by visiting University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Tuesday, October 11.  They close out the weekend by hosting ECC competitors, NYIT and LIU Post.
