OCKLAWAHA, Fla. - Daemen College triathletes
Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and
Anna Lyons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) were among the medal winners today following the competition at the HITS Triathlon Series - Ocala event held at Carney Island Park in central Florida.
Cheff finished the triathlon sprint course in 1:14:09.120 to come in seventh place overall, and second among all female entrants. Â Lyons was the third female to cross the finish line (16th overall), coming in with a time of 1:20:54.065. Â Both were awarded for their top-three finishes among the event's 50 female competitors.
The event today featured 107 total entrants. Â Thirty-one year old Matthew Schaefer came in with the top time of 1:06:16.612. Â The top female was fourteen year old Albright Maryhelen who edged Cheff by just more than a full minute (1:12:55.046). Â The sprint course featured a 750-meter, open-water swim in Lake Weir, a 12.4-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run.
Also competing today for Daemen was
Nichole Geiger (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and
Jenifer Igoe (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama), and each performed well in their own right as well. Â Geiger and Igoe and finished second and third, respectively, in the female 20-24 age group. Â Geiger's time of 1:30:33.167 also placed her 37th overall and 10th among all females. Â Igoe was next with a time of 1:32:06.880 which placed her 38th overall and 11th among all females.
The event today marked the penultimate race of the inaugural season for the Daemen women's triathlon team. Â Coach
