WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's triathlon team completed its historic inaugural season today by participating in the Fly By Night Dual At The Glen held at Watkins Glen International. The event, a duathlon, featured a series of three 1.7-mile runs and two 10.2-mile bike rides.
Anna Lyons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) paced the Wildcats as she finished fourth out of 47 total female entrants. Lyons' time of of 1:45.58 also placed her first in the female 20-24 age group, and 50th overall out of 163 participants, including the 116 men's entries.
Also competing for the Wildcats was
Jenifer Igoe (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) who finished fourth in the female 20-24 age group with a time of 1:59.29. She was also 16th in the overall female standings and 90th in the full race results.
The event marked the sixth and final competition of the 2015-16 season for the Wildcats and head coach
Jon Metz. Daemen is one of just a handful of schools nationwide to sponsor a varsity triathlon program, and has been aided by a
$70,000 grant from USA Triathlon to establish the program. The sport of triathlon, which combines running, biking and swimming into one race has been deemed an emerging sport for women by the NCAA.
