TIFFIN, Ohio — The Daemen College women's soccer team recorded its second win in as many days following a 1-0 victory over Tiffin University here today. Daemen evened its record to 2-2-0, while the host Dragons dropped to 1-4-0 following their fourth-straight loss.
Tiffin was the third Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team the Wildcats have faced this season. Daemen has prevailed in two of the three contests, including a 2-1 (OT) win yesterday at the University of Findlay.
Daemen would net the lone goal of the game with 6:14 left before halftime when redshirt sophomore Sarah Britton (Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) lobbed a shot over the TU goaltender for her first goal of the season. Senior Kelly DuVall (Addison, N.Y./Addison) picked up an assist on the goal.
After an evenly played first half, Daemen outshot the Dragons 7-2 over the final 45 minutes and the Wildcats finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots for the game. Daemen also finished with an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore Jackie Wescott (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) recorded two saves for Daemen en route to her first career shutout. Junior Samantha Ortenzi (Strongville, Ohio) stopped seven shots for the Dragons.
Daemen returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 14) when it hosts Mansfield University at 1 p.m. It will mark the 2016 home opener for Daemen. The game will be played at The Park School Field in Amherst, N.Y.
