Daemen Duo Earns ECC Weekly Honors

AMHERST, N.Y.- Daemen College volleyball players Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./ St. Mary's of Lancaster) and Bailey Dolegowski (Marilla, N.Y./ St. Mary's of Lancaster) have earned ECC Player of the Week accolades.  Drzymala has been named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week and Dolegowski has been named the East Coast Conference Setter of the Week for the competitions held September 12-19.  The announcement was made via the league's weekly report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y.

The Wildcats lost a dramatic five-set match to host Le Moyne on September 14, but bounced back to a dominating 3-0 defeat of California University (Pa.) on September 17.  The duo helped Daemen improve to 6-4 on the 2016 season, playing solid all-around.

Drzymala, a 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter, posted her fifth double-double in the last six matches against Le Moyne.  She recorded 18 kills and 12 digs, bringing her career double-doubles to 21.

The veteran ranks third in the ECC in service aces per set (.45), fourth in kills per set (3.11) and fifth in kills (118).

In the victory over Cal, Drzymala registered 10 kills, she has tallied double-digit kills in eight of the 10 matches this season.  She notched 4 crucial service aces good for a season, team-high 17.  Two consecutive aces throttled Daemen's seven-point run in the opening set to take a 13-6 lead, the Wildcats won 25-20.

Dolegowski, who earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors for August 29-September 5, recorded her fifth double-double of the season and her fourth match of the year with 50 or more assists in the loss to Le Moyne.  She dished out 52 assists and dug 15 balls in the five-set thriller.

The freshman setter paced the Daemen attack with 32 assists in the success over Cal.  She added two service aces and six digs in the match, punching out the first set with a commanding ace.

Dolegowski ranks third in the ECC in assists per set with 8.97

Drzymala and Dolegowski lead Daemen into non-conference action tomorrow evening at Lumsden Gymnasium.  The Wildcats face off against the Gannon Golden Knights, who made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2015.  Match start time is 7:00 p.m.
