AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College men's cross country team member Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) has been named the East Coast Conference Runner of the Week for competitions held from September 19-25.  The official announcement was made via the league's weekly report for the sport of cross country which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y.

Roginson, a 5-foot-10 junior, was the star of stars at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College this past Saturday, September 24.  Roginson completed the 8K race in 25:32.6 to finish first out of 213 total competitors.

The performance marked the first race victory in Roginson's collegiate career, as he shaved more than 50 seconds off his previous best 8K time.  Roginson's previous career-best time (26:25.23) came at the 2015 East Coast Conference Championship meet.  His ninth-place finish at that meet, which was good enough to earn him second-team All-ECC honors, was the only top-10 finish of his career prior to this season.  In addition to his first-place finish Saturday, Roginson finished fourth at the season-opening Le Moyne Alumni Short Course Invitational

Roginson's performance helped Daemen to an 11th place finish in the team standings (out of 22 teams) on Saturday.

Roginson becomes the first Daemen athlete to earn ECC Runner of the Week honors since former teammate and 2016 graduate Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) did so following the opening week of the 2015 season.  It also marked the second weekly honor for a Daemen runner this season; freshman Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore) was named the ECC Rookie of the Week for August 29-September 5.

Roginson and his Wildcat teammates return to racing on Saturday, October 8 at the Lake Erie Storm Invitational.
