Trailing 1-0 late in the game, senior forward Cole Beale (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) netted the equalizer for Daemen at the 87:47 mark, sending his teammates into a raucous celebration with the game destined for overtime. But, after 19 minutes of scoreless extra time, AU converted on a corner kick opportunity in the final minute of the contest as freshman John Duldner (Columbia Station, Ohio) headed home the crossing feed from junior Malcolm Mohrmann (Pine Beach, N.J.).  The hard luck loss sends to Daemen to 0-2-0 on the young season, and it snaps a string of five consecutive double-overtime games without a loss.  The Wildcats were 3-0-2 in their last five double-overtime games coming into today, having last suffered defeat in a game with two overtime periods on October 20, 2013 to University of Bridgeport (1-0). The Wildcats generated more scoring chances today as opposed to their season opener on Thursday vs. Lock Haven University, a 3-1 loss.  Daemen manged to out-shoot the Eagles today 20-18, but placed just six shots on frame.  The Eagles were more economical with their chances, putting 11 shots on goal. Sophomore Tomas Cordeiro (Porto, Portugal) ended nearly 80 minutes of scoreless play, putting the guests on the board at the 79:58 mark.  Cordeiro's goal also came during a corner kick opportunity as he hammered home a rebound after Daemen's Justin Figler (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) made an initial save on an AU header. Beale's goal was as pretty a play as you'll see.  Following an AU foul, Figler took the ensuing free kick, sending the ball into the attacking third where it was neatly flicked on by the head of Colin Edwards (Burlington, Ont./Tiffin University) to Beale who was streaking through the AU defense.  Beale one-touched home his volley of a shot from just inside the box, beating AU goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo (Peninsula, Ohio) inside the right post.  Figler was credited with an assist on the play, the first of his career and the first for a Daemen goalie since Matt Daddario (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) recorded one in a 3-1 defeat of Gannon University on September 16, 2014; Beale was the goal-scorer on the Daddario assist as well. In the first overtime period, Ciraldo came up with a big save on Daemen sophomore Kyle Tracy (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) who was bidding for the "golden goal" with a header attempt off Edwards' corner kick in the 96th minute. Ciraldo did the same in the second overtime, thwarting a header from freshman Connor Pendleton (Wolcott, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) in the 103rd minute and a drive off the foot of Tracy from 25 yards out in the 106th minute. Figler matched him, making a sprawling save on a shot by Mohrmann in the 109th minute. But, just seconds later came the AU corner kick which found its way to Duldner in the center of the box.  The ball came off his head and past Figler to his right, ending the game and setting off a wild celebration from the visitors.  The win for Ashland comes in their debut game of their second go-round as an NCAA Division II program.  The program was discontinued following the 2012 season, despite a history of success that included five NCAA postseason appearances from 1995-2012, including three straight from 2008-10. Ciraldo wound up with four saves on the day to earn the victory between the pipes.  Figler stopped eight AU attempts, marking the fourth game of his career with at least eight saves. The Beale tally was the ninth of his career, and his first since scoring at Long Island University Post on October 25, 2015. Daemen continues non-conference play by visiting Le Moyne College on Monday, September 5.
