Men's Soccer Drops Game In The 'Cuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's soccer team couldn't break into the win column, suffering a 4-0 loss at the hands of Le Moyne College in non-conference action here at Ted Grant Field this afternoon.

With the loss, Daemen falls to 0-3-0 on the season, while the host Dolphins pick up their first victory of the season to improve to 1-0-1.  Le Moyne scored twice in each period, and staved off nine total shots from the Wildcats to earn the shutout.  It's the first time Daemen has been shutout in a regular season game since October 23, 2015 (2-0 vs. N.Y. Institute of Technology).

Redshirt-sophomore midfielder Seth Scarano (Valatie, N.Y.) put the hosts on the board at the 5:56 mark of the opening half.  Scarano struck his shot from just inside the box after taking a feed from freshman forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany).

Faryar would notch his second goal of the season in the 23rd minute, one-timing a loose ball into the lower left corner of the net from 15 yards out.

The Dolphins went into halftime with a 2-0 lead after out-shooting the Wildcats 10-1, and producing six corner kicks to none for the guests.

Le Moyne would add insurance tallies in the second half, first an unassisted marker from freshman midfielder Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Asturias) in the 51st minute, and then a header goal from senior back Ryan Matthews (Dublin, Ireland).  Scarano picked up an assist on the Matthews goal with came at the 58:47 mark.

Daemen did better offensively in the second half, producing eight total shots to Le Moyne's seven.  Both Wildcat shots on goal in the game came from senior forward Cole Beale (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg).

Justin Figler (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) went the distance between the pipes for Daemen, making three saves in a losing effort.  His counterpart, junior Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y.) made one save in the first 57 minutes of the game, before giving way to senior Matt Perry (Syracuse, N.Y.) who closed out the shutout.

The Wildcats were once again without the services of senior forward Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport).  Reid, who has 13 goals and 33 points in his career, has yet to make his season debut as he works his way back from an injury.  Also, redshirt-junior midfielder Logan Podrebarac (Burlington, Ont./Tiffin University), who has become a fixture in the starting lineup over the last two seasons, was sidelined.

Daemen returns home to host California University (Pa.) of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference this Saturday, September 10.
