Women's Soccer Falls At Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team suffered a 7-0 defeat to Le Moyne College in non-conference action here at Ted Grant Field today.

With the loss, Daemen falls to 0-2-0 on the season.  The home-standing Dolphins improve to 2-0-0 as they pick up their second win of the season over an East Coast Conference opponent; LC defeated Roberts Wesleyan College 1-0 in their season opener last Thursday.

Senior forward Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick to pace the Dolphins who also got single tallies from junior forward Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa.), freshman midfielder Claire Stackel (Watertown, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Kelsi Fredericks (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Brielle Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y.).  Terry put the hosts on the board less than nine minutes into the game.  She would go on to add two more scores before the end of period as Le Moyne took a 4-0 lead into halftime.

The Dolphins out-shot Daemen 30-6 in the game.  Daemen got one shot on goal apiece from junior forwards Stephanie Zurales (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Alex Juliano (Hamburg, N.Y./Nardin).

The Wildcats were once again without the services of incumbent starting goalkeeper Meaghan O'Leary (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) as she continues to work her way back from an injury.  O'Leary missed last week's season opener, a 2-1 loss at Lake Erie College on Thursday as well, with sophomore Jackie Wescott (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) getting the start.  Today it was freshman Lizzie Battaglia (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) getting the nod between the pipes.  She made six saves in a losing effort.

Today's game marked the third straight year that Daemen and Le Moyne have met on the pitch.  Although Le Moyne had also won the two previous meetings, those were far different than today as both were just one-goal margins.  The Dolphins' seven-goal outburst today was their most offensive production since defeating St. Michael's College 6-3 on October 17, 2015.

Daemen concludes its season-opening string of four consecutive road games by visiting University of Findlay (Saturday, Sept. 10) and Tiffin University (Sunday, Sept. 11) this weekend.
