Wildcats Sink Lakers In Non-League Match

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team improved to 2-1 following a 9-0 win today over Oswego State University in a non-conference match played at Ellicott Tennis Courts on the campus of the University at Buffalo.

Oswego, a NCAA Division III member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) dropped to 1-1. Daemen, a NCAA Division II member of the East Coast Conference, is now 21-10 all-time against NCAA Division III opponents. The Wildcats dominated from start to finish today and dropped just eight games during the nine matches that were played.

Freshman Tim Georg (Aschaffenburg, Germany) picked up his first career win at No. 1 singles after dispatching of senior Jon Matros (East Islip, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-0. Junior Ricardo Ruiz Martinez (Valencia, Spain) improved to 2-0 on the year at No. 2 singles following a 6-0, 6-2 win over sophomore Chris Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y.), while senior Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) improved to 6-2 overall in singles play after a 6-1, 6-0 win over junior Justin Scuderi (Smithtown, N.Y.) at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany) and freshmen Pablo Martinez Hernandez (Huatulco, Mexico) and Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) also posted singles wins for the Wildcats.

Williamson and Wilde teamed up for the first time this season at No. 1 doubles and rolled to an 8-0 win over Matros and Scuderi. Ruiz Martinez and classmate David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia) improved to 3-1 in doubles play (2-0 at No. 2 doubles) following an 8-2 win over Gayvert and junior Brian Emigholz (Cicero, N.Y.). Martinez Hernandez and Veitengruber capped off the match with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

Daemen closes out the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule Thursday (Oct. 5) when it hosts Houghton College in a non-league match.
