Wildcats Close Home-Stand With A 9-0 Win Over Millersville University; LeMar Becomes The All Time Leader In Career Doubles Wins

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Daemen College men's tennis team competed in their best match of the season thus far as they defeated Millersville University 9-0, at Miller Tennis Center.  This non-conference win boosts the Wildcats' record to 3-11 overall.  Millersville, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, fell to 0-5

Daemen opened the match today by sweeping through doubles competitions and dropping just five sets in the process.  Junior Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and freshman Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany/Julius-Motteler) improved to 2-4 on the year in doubles play after posting an 8-2 victory at first singles over Christian Akerley (Oaklyn, N.J.) and Christian Boyer (Fleetwood, Pa.)

Daemen completed the doubles dominance with easy wins at second and third doubles.  David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Columbia/Liceo Frances) and Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) paired up for the first time this season at second doubles, and scored an 8-1 triumph.  The brother duo of John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Andrew LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) captured their second win of the season together at the No. 3 doubles slot, defeating the Marauder squad of Dylan Wagner and Adam Kopitsky (Bloomsburd, Pa.), 8-2.

With today's win, senior John LeMar became the program's all-time leader in career doubles victories with 31.  LeMar's new Wildcat benchmark ousted Gregory Lowe's previous record of 30.

Gonzalez, Veitengruber, Wilde, and Andrew LeMar all picked up singles victories to give themselves two-point afternoons to seal the victory.  Gonzales and Veitengruber each posted straight-set wins in first and second singles respectively.  Wilde defeated Boyer, 6-4, 7-6 at third singles; Andrew Lemar downed Kopitsky, 8-0 at sixth singles.

Sophomores Ricardo Ruiz (Valencia, Spain/American International) and Justin Milner (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) completed the whitewash at fourth and fifth singles.  Ruiz defeated Wagner 6-2, 6-1, while Milner won 6-0, 6-1 over Jordan Shultz (Ephrata, Pa.).

Daemen hits the road with four matches in as many days, beginning with a dual match vs. Division III Franklin on Mar. 13.
