AMHERST, N.Y. - Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for games played October 15-21. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Greenwood averaged 5.44 digs per set over two matches last week, helping the Wildcats (15-10, 9-1 ECC) to a split of road matches at Long Island University Post and New York Institute of Technology. Saturday's 3-1 win over LIU Post extended Daemen's ECC winning streak to nine straight matches, their longest to start a season since joining the league back in 2013. Despite Sunday's 3-2 loss at NYIT, the Wildcats remain atop the ECC standings, one game ahead of Molloy College (16-6, 8-2 ECC).

Greenwood opened the week by totaling a team-high 16 digs in the win over LIU Post. Her efforts played a direct role in limiting LIU Post to just a .117 hitting percentage in the match. In the five-set thriller at NYIT, Greenwood racked up a career-high 33 digs, 11 more than her previous career-best effort which she had achieved three times, including twice this season.

Greenwood, a 5-foot-6 sophomore, has spent the majority of the season as the Wildcats' primary libero. For the season, she's appeared in all 25 matches and leads the team in total digs (377) and digs per set (4.24). Greenwood also ranks fourth among the ECC leaders in total digs and digs per set.

With today's announcement, Greenwood becomes the fourth Daemen player to earn a weekly honor from the conference. Teammates Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) and Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) have previously earned ECC Player of the Week honors, while freshman setter Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) has been a four-time ECC Setter of the Week and two-time ECC Rookie of the Week honoree. Greenwood is Daemen's first ECC Defensive Player of the Week honoree as the accolade is in its first season of existence.

Greenwood and her Wildcat teammates resume conference play this weekend with home bouts vs. Queens College (Friday, Oct. 26) and Molloy (Saturday, Oct. 27).
