FULL RESULTS
HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team took part in the Highlander Invitational on the campus of Houghton College today. The Wildcats placed eighth out of 11 schools at the 8,000-meter race. Daemen was making its first appearance at this event since 2013.
Rochester Institute of Technology placed five runners among the top-10 finishers and claimed the team title. The Tigers posted 30 points, and edged out SUNY Geneseo (34) for the team title. RIT is ranked fourth in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Atlantic Region poll, while Geneseo is ranked second. Roberts Wesleyan College (118), SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (148) and St. John Fisher College (149) rounded out the top five.
Junior Otto Kingstedt of RIT took home the individual champion honors with a time of 26:15.6—nearly a minute faster than runner-up Ethan Francis (27:13.5) of Fredonia.
Mike Swiniarski (Akron, N.Y.) once again paced the Daemen runners. The sophomore has now placed first among Wildcat runners in each of the four races this fall. Swiniarski placed 22nd among the 140 runners with a time of 28:36.9.
Senior Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y.) and junior Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y.) also posted a top-50 finish for Daemen. Canales placed 41st with a time of 29:13.5, while Bodnar crossed the finish line in 47th place with a time of 29:29.5.
Freshman Robert Spierling (Endicott, N.Y.), redshirt sophomore Nate Louk (Jane Lew, W. Va.) and redshirt senior Zach Barnes (Jamestown, N.Y.) also competed for the Wildcats. Spierling finished 82nd (31:11.9), Louk placed 91st (31:40.) and Barnes finished 127th (35:58.9).
Daemen returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 13) when it takes part in the Canisius Alumni Classic hosted by the Canisius College in Buffalo's Delaware Park.
