Sischo Named ECC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

11/12/2018 6:00:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 5-11. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this evening from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. It marks the 10th ECC weekly accolade in Sischo's career.

Sischo, a 6-foot-9 redshirt sophomore center who was also recently named the ECC Preseason Player of the Year, led the Wildcats to a pair of victories to open the 2018-19 season last week. Daemen knocked off Caldwell University (75-60) and Nyack College (83-72) as part of the ECC-CACC Challenge presented by Western New York Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC. The season-opening tournament featured teams from the East Coast Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and the victories have the Wildcats off to their seventh 2-0 start in the last nine seasons.

Sischo posted back-to-back double-doubles and averaged 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds for the week. He shot 16-for-25 from the field, 2-for-2 from three-point range and 10-for-13 from the charity stripe. He was also named to the ECC-CACC Challenge all-tournament team for his efforts.

Sischo opened the week by scoring 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting, along with grabbing 10 boards and two steals in the win over Caldwell. He followed up by scoring 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and corralling 10 more rebounds in the win over Nyack. The two double-doubles brings his career total to 10, all of which have come in his last 22 games.

The 2017-18 ECC Rookie of the Year is one of four returning all-conference players for the Wildcats this season. Expectations are high this season as the Wildcats open the year ranked No. 22 in the Division II Bulletin preseason national poll, while also receiving votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) preseason national polls. The Wildcats are ranked third in the first D2SIDA East Region media poll which was released earlier today.

Sischo earned nine weekly honors from the conference last season, including eight Rookie of the Week selections, the most for any ECC player since former Molloy guard John Petrucelli earned nine selections during the 2010-11 season.

For his career, Sischo has appeared in 32 games, while making 20 starts. In those contests, he's averaging 15.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 57 percent from the field.

Sischo and the Wildcats return to action Wednesday, Nov. 14 with their first road contest of the 2018-19 season. The Wildcats will visit Mercyhurst University for the teams' sixth meeting in as many seasons.
