Greenwood & McCaffrey Earn ECC Weekly Awards

AMHERST, N.Y. - Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) and Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) of the Daemen College women's volleyball team have each earned weekly honors from the East Coast Conference for matches played October 22-28. Greenwood has been named the ECC Defensive Player of the Week, while McCaffrey earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Greenwood and McCaffrey played integral roles in leading Daemen to an unbeaten 2-0 record with victories over Queens College (3-0) and Molloy College (3-0) last week. With the wins, Daemen (17-10, 11-3 ECC) has clinched at least a share of the ECC regular season championship and the number one seed in the upcoming ECC Championship tournament which will be held November 9-10 at Lumsden Gymnasium.

Greenwood, a 5-foot-6 sophomore, averaged an outstanding 7.67 digs per set in the two Daemen wins last week. Her finest performance came against the defending ECC champs from Molloy when she recorded 28 digs. It was her sixth match this season with at least 20 digs.

Greenwood has spent the majority of the season as the Wildcats' primary libero. For the season, she's appeared in all 27 matches and leads the team in total digs (423) and digs per set (4.45). Greenwood also ranks fourth among the ECC leaders in total digs and digs per set.

McCaffrey, the team's 5-foot-8 freshman setter, totaled 45 assists last week. Like Greenwood, her best performance came against Molloy when she tallied 25 assists and nine digs. During the match, she surpassed 1,000 assists, becoming just the seventh player in team history to reach the milestone in a single season.

For the season, McCaffrey leads the ECC in both total assists (1,002) and assists per set (10.55). The announcement today marked McCaffrey's seventh weekly accolade from the conference this season. She has been a four time ECC Setter of the Week honoree (Sept. 3-9, Sept, 10-16, Sept. 17-23, Sept. 24-30) and a three-time ECC Rookie of the Week honoree (Aug. 27-Sept. 2, Oct. 1-7, Oct. 22-28).

Greenwood, McCaffrey and the rest of the Wildcats close out the 2018 regular season with a pair of road matches this weekend when they'll visit Mercy College (Nov. 3) and the University of Bridgeport (Nov. 4).
