ORLANDO, Fla. - The Daemen College men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Post University tonight in a non-conference match held at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus.
Daemen, which also suffered a 9-0 setback to Wayne State University in Kissimmee, Fla. this afternoon, dropped to 4-8 on the year following its sixth-straight loss. Post, which is a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament last spring, picked up its first win of the year and is now 1-4.
Daemen's lone win of the night came at No. 1 doubles where senior Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich.) and sophomore Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany) teamed up to post an 8-5 win over junior Ivan
Rajevac (Dubrovnik, Croatia) and sophomore Samuel Urban ( Kosice, Slovakia). Post emerged with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, and the Eagles took a 2-1 lead into singles play after juniors Jonathan Compres (Rockland, County, N.Y.) and Peter Rossel (Vienna, Austria) outlasted freshmen Tim Georg (Aschaffenburg, Germany) and Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn.) by a score of 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
Post registered straight-set wins in each of the six singles matches. Senior Nikola Crvelin (Kastel Luksic, Croatia) defeated Georg 6-2, 7-6 at No. 1 singles and Compres downed junior David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia), 6-4, 6-2, and second singles. Rajevac, Urban, Rossel and sophomore Joe Alvord (Southbury, Conn.) also earned wins during singles play for the Eagles, who are now 3-0 all-time against Daemen.
Daemen is down in The Sunshine State all week and returns to action tomorrow (March 14) when they take on the University of St. Francis in a non-league match in Haines City, Fla.
