Women's Soccer Snaps Slide with Shutout of Shepherd

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen College women's soccer team rattled off 31 shots in a 2-0 non-conference win against Shepherd University today at Karrer Field.

The win snapped Daemen's three-game losing streak, upping their overall record to 2-3 on the season. It was also Daemen's first win by shutout since doing so against this same Shepherd team (1-0) in their 2017 season finale. Shepherd dropped to 1-4 on the season with today's loss.

Shepherd came in with the first shot of the game from Braden Pickett, which was saved by Wildcat goalkeeper Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.). After that, Daemen racked up 31 shots in a row moving all the way into the 86th minute when the Rams were able to get the last three shots of them game, putting three out of the four shots on goal.

In the 25th minute, the Wildcats were able to break through with a goal after putting a couple shots off the post. Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) received a through ball from Celia de Pablo Esteban (Burgos, Spain) between defenders creating a footrace between Boyar and the Shepherd center back. Boyar won the ball finishing into the lower left-hand side. This marked Boyar's fourth goal of the season and de Pablo Esteban's fifth assist.

The Wildcats were able to control the ball for nearly the whole the first half with 22 shots. Head coach Dan Dolan was able to rotate the squad, playing 22 different players in the game.

In the second half, Daemen continued its attack with Sarah Kenny (Perth, Australia) receiving a ball in the box from Kayleigh Daniels (Newfane, N.Y.). Kenny was able to pull the ball back onto her right foot around a defender and placing the ball into the right side of the net for the first goal of her career.

White was credited with three saves for the Wildcats en route to her fourth career shutout.

This is the second time this season that the Wildcats have had double-digit shots and double-digit shots on goal with the last time coming in a 5-2 home win against Bloomfield.

Boyar's goal now puts her in the lead among all East Coast Conference players this season in both goals (4) and points (9). For her career, Boyar has registered 21 goals and 50 points in 38 games played. The Wildcats are now 11-5-1 over the course of her career in games that she records a goal.

The win today also improved Daemen's all-time record against Shepherd to 3-0. Shepherd is yet to record a goal in the series with Daemen outscoring the Rams 4-0. In addition to last season's meeting, the teams also met in Dolan's head coaching debut to open the 2009 season.

Daemen continues ECC play on Saturday, September 15 when it hosts Molloy College in its second conference game of the season at 11 a.m. at Karrer Field.
