Boyar's Hat Trick Lifts Wildcats Over Molloy AMHERST, N.Y. - Junior forward Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored a career-high three goals, including the game-winner in the 92nd minute, to lift the Daemen College women's soccer team to a 3-2 come-from-behind, overtime victory over visiting Molloy College in East Coast Conference action at Karrer Field today. Boyar broke free after a misplayed ball by the Molloy defense, and carried up the right side before cutting into the middle where she scored on a low shot inside the near post from 16 yards out. The "golden goal" sent the Wildcats into a frenzied celebration as Boyar was mobbed by her teammates. With the win, Daemen improved to 3-3 on the season, and an even 1-1 in ECC play. Molloy, which was picked three spots ahead of Daemen at fourth in the ECC preseason poll, dropped to 0-3-1 overall, and 0-1-0 in league play with today's loss. A Wildcat victory seemed improbable after Molloy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of the contest. Lexi Verni struck first, putting Molloy on the board less than a minute into the game. A failed Daemen clearing attempt came directly to Verni near of the top of the box and she buried a left-footed attempt high and inside the right post. The lead grew to two when Joanna Grace's header on a corner kick opportunity found the back of the net at the 10:51 mark. Daemen got back into it when Boyar scored at the 28:20 mark. She took a through-ball out of the midfield from Sarah Britton (Syracuse, N.Y.) and turned it into a breakaway, sending a low shot past Molloy goalkeeper Jackie Carty as she raced off the goal line to cut down the angle. Boyar would add the equalizer at the 59:28 mark when she deflected a crossing feed from Sam Hanes (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) past Carty and over the goal line. It appeared as if the Wildcats would go ahead late in regulation when Boyar was hauled down in the box to negate a breakaway opportunity. Carty was issued with a yellow card after committing the foul, and Boyar was awarded a penalty kick in the 84th minute. But, her penalty kick attempt sailed wide, keeping the game knotted at 2-2. Just moments later, after an initial attack into the box by Boyar, Hanes drilled the potential go-ahead goal off the goalpost. The overtime period opened with a solid scoring opportunity for the Wildcats off the left foot of Lindsay Ciaramella (St. George, Ont.), but Carty was up to the task, making her 12th save of the contest. The same could not be said just 50 seconds later as Boyar ended it just a minute-and-a-half into the extra period. Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.) made four saves between the pipes for Daemen, picking up her second win of the season; both have come this week as White was coming off a shutout performance in the Wildcats' 2-0 win over Shepherd on Wednesday. Boyar's trifecta of tallies gives her a league-leading seven this season, and she becomes the first Daemen player to record a hat trick since Stephanie Zurales did so in a 6-0 defeat of Washington Adventist University on September 19, 2015. Boyar also leads the league in game-winning goals (3) and points (15), and she's now totaled 10 game-winning goals since the start of the 2017 season. In 39 career games, Boyar has notched 24 goals and 56 points. Daemen is now 5-0 when Boyar records a multi-goal game, and 12-5-1 when she scores at least one goal. The result today marked Daemen's first overtime win since a 1-0 final at Clarion University last October. The Wildcats are now unbeaten in their last nine overtime games (6-0-3). The team's last overtime loss was a 2-1 double-overtime decision against rival Roberts Wesleyan College on October 2, 2015. Daemen will ride their modest two-game winning streak into a non-conference contest Tuesday, September 18 at Mercyhurst University.
