AMHERST, N.Y. - Junior forward
Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) of the Daemen College women's soccer team has been nominated for the
HEROSports.com NCAA Division II Hero of the Week award which honors the player with the best individual performance in games played last week.
Boyar, who yesterday was named the
East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, totaled four goals over two games last week, both Daemen victories at Karrer Field to even the team's overall (3-3) and ECC (1-1) records.
She opened the week by netting Daemen's first goal in a 2-0 non-conference victory over Shepherd University on September 12. Boyar took a through ball from
Celia de Pablo Esteban (Burgos, Spain) and broke the scoreless tie in the game's 25th minute.
Against Molloy, Boyar registered the first hat trick of her career, helping the Wildcats erase a 2-0 deficit in their 3-2 victory. After Molloy scored twice in the first 11 minutes of the contest, Boyar cut the deficit in half with her first tally in the 29th minute, off a feed from redshirt senior midfielder
Sarah Britton (Syracuse, N.Y.). She got the equalizer in the 60th minute, deflecting a crossing feed from sophomore midfielder
Sam Hanes (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) across the goal line. And, after going into overtime, Boyar ended the game in the 92nd minute when she stole the ball from the Molloy defender, raced up the right side and cut into the middle where she scored from 16 yards out.
The output vs. Molloy marked the fifth multi-goal game of Boyar's career. Daemen is undefeated (5-0) when scores at least two goals, and 12-5-1 when scores at least once. She also became the first Daemen player with three goals in a game since
Stephanie Zurales did so in a 6-0 win over Washington Adventist University on September 19, 2015.
For the season, Boyar has totaled seven goals, 15 points and three game-winning goals, all of which presently lead the ECC. In her career, Boyar has appeared in 39 games and totaled 24 goals and 56 points.
Additional nominees for the Hero of the Week award include Caroline Halonen of Northern Michigan University, Victoria Ramirez of Queens College, Krystal Hund of Georgian Court University, Mia Hollingsworth of Lee University, Mary Reilly of the University of California-San Diego, Katie Killion of Central Oklahoma University, Nicole Abbott of East Stroudsburg University, Tarah Patterson of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and Jenna Baxter of Simon Fraser University.
Voting for the Hero of the Week award is open until 3 p.m. ET this Friday, September 21. The winner will be announced via the herosports.com Twitter account (
