Junior forward Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) netted the game-winner off a crossing feed from sophomore forward Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) in the 99th minute of the contest. It was like deja vu all over again for the Wildcats. In their last East Coast Conference game a week ago, Daemen trailed Molloy College 2-0 before Boyar sparked a second half flurry with her first career hat trick, including the game-winning goal in overtime. Tonight's win pushes Daemen's record to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in ECC play. The Wildcats join Mercy College (5-1, 2-0 ECC) and New York Institute of Technology (6-2, 2-0 ECC) as the only teams with two ECC victories at this point in the season. Roberts Wesleyan dropped to 2-4-2 overall and 1-2 in league play with their loss this evening. Daemen has now defeated their longtime rivals in back-to-back seasons, and three of the last four meetings have been decided by a single goal. After a scoreless first half, RWC got on the board early in the second. The Redhawks were awarded a penalty kick in the 52nd minute after Daemen was whistled for a foul inside their own box. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) was up to the challenge as she stoned the penalty kick attempt of Taylor Rutland, but RWC's Genevieve Palmer won the race to the rebound and scored her first goal of the season. After Boyar nearly tied the game with a shot that hit the goal post in the 58th minute, the Redhawks went ahead 2-0 on Justine Sharda's goal in the 61st minute. Sharda's shot from inside the box made its way into the left side of the net, doubling the Redhawks' lead. The Daemen comeback started a short time later as Meyer netted her second goal of the season. Meyer pounced on a rebound opportunity at the 64:07 mark to cut the deficit in half. The equalizer came just over two minutes later as Boyar made good on a penalty kick opportunity at the 66:38 mark. It marked Boyar's second penalty kick goal of the season, and the third of her career. The teams traded corner kick opportunities down the stretch. The Wildcat defense stiffened, allowing just two shot attempts in the final 24 minutes of regulation, neither of which made their way on frame. Daemen controlled possession throughout the overtime period, getting shot attempts from Sarah Britton (Syracuse, N.Y.), Meyer, Sam Hanes (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Boyar before the latter's "golden goal" at the 98:01 mark. For Boyar, it was her league-leading ninth goal of the season. She's recorded the game-winning goal in all four of Daemen's victories this season. Since the start of the 2017 season, she's totaled 11 game-winning goals, four of which have come in overtime games. Boyar now has 26 goals and 60 points in 41 games played in her collegiate career. Daemen is 13-5-1 when scores a goal, and 6-0 when she records a multi-goal game. Daemen held a 22-10 advantage in shot attempts tonight, including a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. Flores made three saves and evened her season record at 2-2. Kelsey Brinkel took the loss for RWC despite recording nine saves. The Wildcats now look ahead to a showdown with NYIT next Saturday, September 29 at Karrer Field. It'll be a matchup between two of the top three offensive teams in the ECC as NYIT is presently averaging a league-high 2.39 goals per game; Daemen ranks third with a 2.13 goals-per-game average.
