AMHERST, N.Y. - Amber Custodi (Ransomville, N.Y.) of the Daemen College women's triathlon team has earned Scholar All-American honors from the College Triathlon Coaches Association (CTCA). The CTCA awarded Scholar All-American honors to those who competed in the Collegiate National Championship last November while also achieving a grade-point-average of 3.5 or higher for the Fall 2018 semester. It marks the second straight year that Custodi, a redshirt sophomore triathlete, has earned the accolade.

Custodi placed 10th among all NCAA Division II competitors at the Collegiate National Championship held in Tempe, Arizona on Nov. 4. She qualified for the national championship meet after placing fourth overall, and second among participants from NCAA Division II programs, at the Central Regional Qualifier in mid-September. It marked the second straight year that Custodi qualified for the national championship meet with a high finish at a regional event.

Academically, Custodi is in her third year studying in Daemen's physical therapy program.

The CTCA was founded in 2017 with the objective of promoting collegiate triathlon while also providing guidance through educational, professional, technical and competitive support and opportunities to the organization's membership. The CTCA consists of Active Members, who are actively coaching triathlon on the NCAA sponsored varsity level, and Associate Members, who are interested in supporting the objectives and purposes of the CTCA. Daemen head coach Jon Metz serves as the association's president.

The sport of triathlon, which combines swimming, biking and running into a race-style event, was termed an Emerging Sport For Women by the NCAA in January of 2014, establishing a 10-year window for the formation of 40 intercollegiate programs.  At present, according to USA Triathlon which oversees intercollegiate competitions, Daemen is one of 25 schools in the country (10 affiliated with NCAA Division II) to sponsor a varsity triathlon program for women.

The Wildcats' 2018-19 season will continue during the spring semester.
