Bartlo Nets First Career Goal For Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman Foti Malitas scored two goals to lead Bloomsburg University to a 4-2 victory over Daemen College here today in non-conference men's soccer action. Daemen dropped to 0-15-0 on the year. Bloomsburg, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference  (PSAC) improved to 7-9-0.

It marked the final non-conference game of the year for Daemen, which closes out the season with East Coast Conference games against the University of the District of Columbia and St. Thomas Aquinas College.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bloomsburg opened the scoring just 52 seconds into the contest when freshman defender Stephen Hollis scored following a BU throw in from the right sideline.
  • The Huskies doubled their lead in the 22nd minute, once again following a throw in from the right sideline. Senior defender Evan Novian recorded the goal this time.
  • Malitas scored his first goal of the game five minutes into the second half to give Bloomsburg a 3-0 lead.
  • Daemen made it 3-1 just over three minutes later when freshman Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored off a feed from sophomore Hilario Munoz (Malaga, Spain). It marked the first career goal for Bartlo and the first career point for Munoz.
  • BU regained its three-goal lead 10 minutes later when Malitas scored his third goal of the year.
  • Daemen closed out the scoring in the 76th minute when junior Craig Buchanan (Glasgow) converted a penalty kick. It marked the first goal of the season for Buchanan, and the fourth of his career.
  • BU finished with a 14-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Junior Jarrett Lecceadone (Randolph, N.Y.) started in net for the Wildcats and made four saves before being replaced by sophomore Eithan Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.) in the 20th minute. Hahn finished with six saves.
     

GAME NOTES

  • This marked the third-straight year that Daemen and Bloomsburg have met. The Huskies have now prevailed in all three contests.
  • Daemen returns to action Saturday (Nov. 2) when it hosts the University of the District of Columbia in an East Coast Conference game. It will mark final home game of the year for Daemen.
