WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Thomas Cecil scored two goals to lead the University of the District of Columbia to a 3-0 victory over Daemen College here today in East Coast Conference men's soccer action. Daemen dropped to 0-16-0 overall and 0-7-0 in the ECC. UDC ran its winning streak to three-straight games and improved to 7-10-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the league.The game was played at Williamsville South High School Stadium due to unplayable field conditions at Karrer Field—Daemen's usual home field.
HIGHLIGHTS
- UDC opened the scoring 8:36 seconds into the contest when Cecil scored off a feed from junior forward Vitor Gomes.
- The lead went to 3-0 when the Firebirds struck for two goals in the span of 3:32 midway through the first half. Cecil netted his second of the game at 22:06, and senior forward Malik Thom gave the visitors a three goal cushion at 25:38.
- Daemen posted a 10-5 edge in shots during the second half (six shots on goal), but could not get one past UDC net minder Javier Abadia.
- UDC finished with a 16-14 edge in total shots and a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. Daemen equaled its season-high for shots (14), which it originally set during a 2-1 OT loss to Walsh University on Sept. 7.
- Sophomore Eithan Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.) went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and made six saves. Abadia stopped seven shots for the Firebirds.
GAME NOTES
- Today's game marked the 2019 home finale for the Wildcats and Craig Buchanan was honored in a pre-game ceremony in recognition of his final home game.
- Daemen is idle until next Saturday (Nov. 9) when it closes out the 2019 season with an ECC game at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
