Wildcats Ground Golden Eagles, 2-0

Boyar Nets 52nd Career Goal

CLARION, Pa. - The Daemen College women's soccer team snapped a three-game winless streak following a 2-0 victory over Clarion University here today. Daemen moved to 9-3-3 with the win. Clarion, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, dropped to 4-10-1.

It marked the final non-conference game of the year for Daemen, which went 7-1-1 against opponents outside the East Coast Conference.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The game remained scoreless until just before halftime when freshman Alyssa Mercado (Ontario, Calf.) netted an unassisted goal. It marked the fourth goal of the year for the rookie.
  • Daemen doubled its lead 21 minutes into the second half when seniors Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Erin Egan (Williamsville, N.Y.) teamed up for the tally. Boyar netted the goal, her team-leading 15th of the year.
  • The Daemen defense took over from there, limiting the host Golden Eagles to just two shots on goal over the final 24 minutes.
  • Daemen posted a 13-11 edge in total shots, and a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Junior Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) went the distance in net for the Wildcats and made five saves en route to her second-straight shutout and her sixth shutout of the year. It marks the 10th time this season she has held an opponent to one goal or less.

GAME NOTES

  • Today's game marked the third-straight year the teams have met, and Daemen now owns a 2-0-1 edge in the all-time series. Clarion has yet to score a goal in its three meetings with Daemen.
  • Senior Jamie Boyar has now scored at least one goal in 10 of Daemen's 15 games. She has totaled 52 career goals and now stands two goals shy of tying the program record for most career goals (54) set by Kim Walker (2003-06).
  • Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play Saturday (Nov. 2) when it hosts Lincoln University. It will mark the final regular-season home home for the Wildcats.
