WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Daemen College scored four times in the first 23 minutes of the game en route to a 7-0 victory over Lincoln University here today in East Coast Conference women's soccer action. Daemen moved to 10-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the ECC. Lincoln, which joined the ECC as an associate member last year, dropped to 1-13-0 overall and 0-7-0 in the league. The game was played at Williamsville South High School Stadium due to unplayable field conditions at Karrer Field—Daemen's usual home field.
Today's game marked the final home game for seniors Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.), Lindsay Ciaramella (St. George, Ont.), Erin Egan (Williamsville, N.Y.), Michelle Fiore (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Sarah Kenny (Perth Australia). They were honored in a pre-game ceremony and they all went on to score a goal today.
Daemen entered the day tied for fifth place in the ECC standings. The top four teams in the final standings earn a bid to the ECC Championship Tournament. Daemen made its first ever appearance in the ECC Tournament last fall.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Six different players scored for Daemen, which took a 5-0 lead into halftime.
- Senior Egan registered her first career multi-goal game. She scored the two goals in a span of 1:08 midway through the first half to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.
- Fiore scored her first career goal with just 3:32 left before halftime to give the hosts their 5-0 lead at the break.
- The game remained 5-0 until the Wildcats struck for two goals in the span of 1:05 to take a 7-0 advantage. Ciaramella scored her third goal of the year at the 73:49 mark, and Kenny followed with her second of the year at 74:54.
- Boyar, who registered a team-high seven shots on goal in the game, opened the scoring just 8:12 into the contest. It marked her team-leading 16th goal of the year.
- Sophomore Grace Stranahan (Grand Island, N.Y.) gave Daemen a 2-0 lead at 17:54, before Egan struck for her two goals at 21:57 and 23:05.
- Junior Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) and freshman Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) combined to make three saves for Daemen, which has now shutout its last three opponents. Senior Lena Rodriguez, who entered the game averaging a league-high 15 saves per game, stopped 21 shots for the Lions.
GAME NOTES
- Daemen is ranked 10th in the first official NCAA Division II East Region poll released this week by the Regional Advisory Committee. It marks the first time since transitioning to Division II that Daemen has been included in the official regional rankings which are used to determine NCAA tournament bids.
- The Wildcats have posted 10 wins in a season for the first time since 2013 when they finished 10-10-0.
- Daemen has now shutout eight of its 16 opponents. The eight shutouts are the most in one season for the Wildcats, breaking the previous record of seven set in 2006.
- Boyar has now scored at least one goal in 11 of Daemen's 16 games. She has totaled 53 career goals and now stands one goal shy of tying the program record for most career goals (54) set by Kim Walker (2003-06).
- Daemen is idle until next Saturday (Nov. 9) when it closes out the 2019 regular season with an ECC game at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
