Men's Basketball Tied Atop D2SIDA Preseason Regional Poll 11/1/2019 3:32:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's basketball team is tied at No. 1 in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) preseason East Region media poll which was released today. The Wildcats sit atop the poll along with defending regional champion St. Anselm College as both teams garnered 57 points and three first-place votes. Daemen spent 13 consecutive weeks ranked in the D2SIDA regional poll last season, including a No. 1 ranking in six of the last seven published polls. The Wildcats are coming off a 24-6 season - the program's eighth straight season with at least 19 wins. Daemen captured the East Coast Coast Conference regular season championship and made their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. The rankings released today are the third poll involving Daemen to be out this week. The Wildcats have also been picked No. 1 in the ECC preseason coaches poll, and for the first time since transitioning to NCAA Division II, they'll open the season as a nationally-ranked team. The Wildcats sit at No. 22 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) preseason top-25 poll. The Wildcats open their season in prestigious fashion tonight as they take on No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Northwest Missouri State University as part of the Small College Basketball National Hall of Fame Classic.
