Wildcats Race To Sixth-Place Finish At Collegiate Nationals

Custodi & Merrill Post Top-25 Finishes To Pace Daemen

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Daemen College women's triathlon team claimed sixth place out of 10 competing NCAA Division II teams today at the USA Triathlon Women's Collegiate National Championships. It marked Daemen's fourth trip to the national meet in five years as a varsity program. 

Queens University of Charlotte boasted three of the top seven finishers to place first for the second straight season. Davis & Elkins College and Colorado Mesa University finished second and third, respectively. 

D&E's Natalia Hidalgo Martinez claimed the individual championship, completing the course today in 1:06:30. Natalie Bash and Sam McInnes of Queens placed second and third with times of 1:07:10 and 1:07:36, respectively.

Daemen was paced today by redshirt junior Amber Custodi (Ransomville, N.Y.). Making her third national championships appearance, Custodi placed 21st today with a time of 1:18:06. She was backed up by freshman Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) who placed 23rd with a time of 1:19:39.

Freshman Keagan Carroll (Woodbridge, Va.) also made her national championships debut today. She figured in the scoring as Daemen's third finisher, placing 29th with a time of 1:25:17.

Freshman Caitlyn Yap (Kennesaw, Georgia) also competed for Daemen today. She placed 31st with a time of 1:26:21. 


Today's race concludes the fall portion of Daemen's 2019-20 season. The team's spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
