Nolet And Boswell Pace Wildcats At Season-Opening Meet

Nolet Places First In 5,000 Meters

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team opened its 2019 indoor season today by taking part in the Brockport Season Opener. The event was hosted by The College at Brockport. It marks the second-straight year Daemen has opened the season at an event hosted by Brockport.

A first-place showing by redshirt sophomore Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) in the 5,000 meter run and top-five finishes by sophomore Nazjahe Boswell (Rochester, N.Y.) in the 60 and 200 meter dash highlighted the day for the Wildcats.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nolet, fresh off an all-conference season with the women's cross country team, topped a field of seven runners in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:21.10. She finished a half minute ahead of second-place finisher Hannah Hertik (19:51.87) of Oswego State College.
  • Sophomore Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.) also took part in the 5,000 meter run and placed fourth with a time of 20:42.45.
  • Boswell picked up where she left off after a solid rookie season last year. She placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.22, and then placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.49.
  • Freshman Alyssa Mercado (Ontario, Calif.), who helped the Daemen women's soccer team to its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament appearance this year, made her debut with the track and field team today. She placed fifth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.54 and finished 14th in the 200 meters (28.96). Fellow newcomer Samantha Ritter (Fairport, N.Y.) also made her debut with the team in the 60 meter dash and placed sixth (8.59).
  • Daemen had three runners in the 400 meters. Redshirt freshman Emily Shea (East Amherst, N.Y.) was the top Daemen finisher and placed 10th overall with a time of 1:08.81. Sophomore Monahe Marchione (Buffalo, N.Y.) finished 12th (1:10.65) and redshirt sophomore Alexis Villarrubia (Rochester, N.Y.) placed 14th (1:11.53).
  • Junior Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.), who was also a member of the women's soccer team this fall, competed in three of the six field events today. She placed seventh in the high jump (1.44 m), ninth in the triple jump (10.36 m) and 12th in the long jump (4.74 m).
  • Junior Betty Jones (Camillus, N.Y.) took part in both the weight throw and the shot put. She placed 12th in the weight throw (11.39 m) and 16th in the shot put (9.11 m). Freshman Skye Dorcely (Buffalo, N.Y.) made her collegiate debut in the shot put and placed 17th (8.93).

Daemen is idle until January 18 the it takes part in the RIT Invitational hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
