Daemen Cheerleaders Claim First Place At Angel Cheer & Dance Championship 2/10/2019 3:30:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications LOCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen College cheerleading team won first place at the Eighth Annual Angel Cheer and Dance Championship which was held today at Lockport High School. The event featured divisions separate divisions for competing high school and college teams. The performance today marked Daemen's first as an official varsity program. After years of existence as a club team, cheerleading was elevated to varsity status for the 2018-19 season. The Daemen cheerleading team, under the direction of head coach Brianna Aichinger, was judged to have the best two-minute routine amongst college teams entered in today's championship competition. The Wildcats' routine combined traditional cheerleading stunts with dancing, jumping and tumbling. The Angel Cheer and Dance Championship is put on by the Elly's Angels Foundation which was formed in remembrance of Ellyce Kausner, a victim of the Continental Flight 3407 tragedy. The competition acts as a fundraiser for the organization which provides opportunities, inspiration and financial assistance to children of all ages.
