NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Daemen College men's tennis team fell in a 6-1 loss to Walsh University in a non-conference match today at the North Canton Racquet Club. The loss pushes to Wildcats to 0-5 with Walsh moving to 1-5 on the season. Walsh is a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
The Cavaliers won the first of the seven possible points in the three doubles matches. The top-seeded matchup with Jose Williamson II (Minneapolis, MN) and Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany) recorded as unfinished. The No. 2Â seed of James Schaab-Rozbicki (Amherst, N.Y.) and Ricardo Ruiz Martinez (Valencia, Spain) dropped the set 6-1. The scheduled No. 3 seeded match was withdrawn by the Wildcats giving Walsh the two wins for the first point.Â
The singles matches all count for one point after the three doubles matches. Walsh was able to take control after winning the No. 1 match in which Raul Martinez fell 6-2, 7-5. Wilde came back to win the first and only Daemen point of the match in the No. 2 slot with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 win in three sets. The Wildcats fell in the next four singles matches.
Daemen returns to action when they travel to Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. on Friday, Feb. 23 beginning at 7 p.m.
