Daemen Falls in Both Matches in California

IRVINE, CALIF - The Daemen College men's tennis team fell in both of its matches today against the No. 11 Azusa Pacific Cougars and the Concordia University Eagles. The Wildcats fell to Azusa Pacific by a score of 7-0 and the Eagles 6-0.

The losses dropped Daemen to 1-9 on the season while APU moved to 12-1 on the season. Concordia is now 8-4 with the win.

In the first match, beginning at 9 a.m. PST, the Wildcats faced off against the Cougars in which they fell in the doubles matches giving them their first point.  In a new scoring format for NCAA Division II matches this season, the outcome of doubles matches will award a single point to the team winning at least two of the three matchups, as opposed to awarding points for each individual doubles victory.

The top duo for the Wildcats of Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany) and Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn.) lost 6-0. The duo of Ricardo Ruiz Martinez (Valencia, Spain) and David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia) fell 6-1 followed by Justin Milner (ithaca, N.Y.) and James Schaab-Rozbicki (Amherst, N.Y.) fell 6-2.

Azusa Pacific took all six singles matches from the Wildcats as well with top seed Ryan Nuno defeating Ruiz Martinez 6-1, 6-2. Wilde, Gonzalez Villegas, Williamson III, Milner and Schaab-Rozbicki all fell in singles play as well.

The second match of the day saw the a 6-0 loss for the Wildcats to the Eagles. The six point score was a result of the doubles matches being cancelled.

Ruiz Martinez fell in the top seeded singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Wilde fell 6-3, 6-4 in the second slot. Gonzalez, Williamson III, Milner and Schaab-Rozbicki also fell in singles play.

The two matches wrap up the trip to Southern California and the Wildcats will return to action when they host Millersville University on March 22 at 9 p.m. at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y.
