WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team fell in non-conference play tonight to the Millersville University Marauders by a match score of 7-0. This was the first home match for the Wildcats since October when they hosted Southern New Hampshire University.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-10 on the season while the Marauders move to 2-9 overall. Millersville is a Division II member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
The Marauders took a 1-0 lead after winning the three doubles matches. In a new scoring format for NCAA Division II matches this season, the outcome of doubles matches will award a single point to the team winning at least two of the three matchups, as opposed to awarding points for each individual doubles victory.Â
Daemen's top doubles team of Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany) and Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn.) fell to Millersville's senior Peter Landis and sophomore Carlos Martinez-Lucas by a score of 6-3.  Ricardo Ruiz Martinez (Valencia, Spain) and David Gonzalez's (Pereira, Columbia) match was halted at a score of 4-3 in the second slot. The third and final slot saw Justin Milner (Ithaca, N.Y.) and James Schaab-Rozbicki (Amherst, N.Y.) falling 6-4.
The singles matches resulted in four of the six going to a deciding third set. Wilde fell in the second seed to Landis by a score of 6-1, 6-7 and 9-11. Gonzalez fell 7-6, 3-6 and 10-6. Ruiz Martinez (6-3, 7-5), Williamson III (6-4, 6-3), Milner (6-1, 1-6, 11-9) and Schaab-Rozbicki 4-6, 6-4, 10-4) also fell in singles play.
Daemen will travel down to Houghton College for another away match on Wednesday, March 27.
